- Keep a water bottle with you at all times… and drink from it often
- Look at exercise as a pleasure and a privilege.
- Even fat free, low cal food has calories. Eat modest well-balanced meals and watch the calories. It really does matter.
- Limit caffeine and exposure to second-hand smoke
- Focus all your attention on short-term fitness goals. If you make those… they will come.. (i.e. long term goals.)
- Keep a daily log of what you’re eating… this includes EVERYTHING.
- Enjoy 1 once-a-week “unhealthy” treat.
- Try to contribute to the health of others. Knowing that you’re an example to others can motivate us to stay on track.
- Avoid monotony. Find new ways to exercise. Keep it exciting.
- Subscribe to fitness magazines. I keep mine on the coffee table. It’s the first thing I see when I try to sit my ass on the couch. Looking at a girl with abs you could crack nuts on kinda makes you want to get up and do something.
- Invest in good shoes, an iPod, snazzy music, dvds, whatever will keep you safe and motivated… the money is worth it many times over
- Make a goal to workout 6 days a week. Even if it’s something small.
- Don’t negatively compare yourself to others. Yes, inspiration is good, but being your own worst critic is not.
- Take a multivitamin.
- Don’t get stuck. If you can comfortably run 3 miles… step it up a notch. Try 4 today.
- Measure yourself by the way your clothes fit, NOT the number on the scale. I know this is difficult, but try to remember that the number on the scale will eventually follow.
- Make your eating plan indefinite. Don’t starve or fad.
- Get LOTS of sleep 8+ hours
